Barely OK,
by Dfcu, 2010-03-08
Do you want to do 3 things to change the station? This one is for you. Do you want balance or fade? This one is not for you. Do you want bass and treble control. Look elsewhere. Sounds OK but to hard to use and not enough control.
Awesome Radio/Awesome Price,
by M. Savaglio, 2010-03-04
I've accuatly been shopping around for a new head unit for a long time (got tired of my stock GM am/fm only one). After much research I decided this was the best choice as far as price and features. Sure other head units out there might have higher output watts...etc...etc... but lets be honest, hardcore audio buffs would be using amps and nice speakers anyway.
Some of my favorite features of this head unit are the IPOD-USB direct connection, HD Radio with the ability to Store 16 preset stations, and the ability to choose the display color.
I hooked in my IPOD, grabbed the remote provided, and never had to reach for a radio dial/button again.
Some words of warning, be sure to check if your IPOD's Generation is supported by the USB. Also, when installing into my truck, I had purchase antenna adapter. Finally, due to GM's brillant plan to run all the warning chimes through the factory original radio, I had to purchase an additional GM Chime Retention Device.
You should try disconnecting the wiring harness from the back of your orginal radio first, then test if your warning chimes still work. This might save you some greef if your like me and tend to leave your keys in the ignition or your dome light on.
great radio for the price,

What a Great Radio For The Price!,

Ok, so you could get nit-picky about things like this radio's awkward "buttonology" as I call it (how you have to change stations, change presets, etc.) but bottom line, this is an awesome HD Radio at this price point. It works flawlessly with my iPhone 3GS and sounds great when I'm streaming radio stations from all over the country into my truck.
Who needs satellite radio anyway???
Fantastic radio once you get used to the navigation of it,
by mike, 2010-02-07
It's is true what many have said that this radio takes some getting used to.
But once you get used to it, I find it to be a fantastic radio.
Fortunately for me, I was replacing a JVC KD-HDR20, so all I had to do is remove the wire connector from the back of the HDR20, and plug it into this unit, and I was up and running (I also use the JVC Ipod connector as well).
So far so good.
I didn't notice the "tinny" sound that others have mentioned. Perhaps that's because mine is hooked up to a monsoon system (not sure).
I really do appreciate being able to change the illumination to a color similar to the other components on my dash board.
UPDATE: I guess you can actually use the ipod to search if you don't want to use the head unit for it. In the settings (when and ipod is plugged in), there is an option in the menu settings called "Ipod Switch"(I think). From there you have the option to select either the head unit, or the ipod itself (Ipod mode) to search for songs. There is a stipulation that states the Video file can not be searched. That may be for legal reasons.
This unit will also allow you to set the auxiliary input to be louder/quieter than the FM stations. In the event that your Aux device tends to be kind of quiet. Very nice feature in my opinion. I always hate having the turn the volume down when changing from one source to another because of one source being so much louder than another.
If you have a Zune, you'll also need to use the headphone jack, and this unit (like most) does not recognize the Zune through the USB.
So all in all, I thought the sound quality was great. The overall functionality is great. It simply takes some time and patience to get used to it.
For $120 I haven't seen any other radios that compare.
