Works great with i-Touch,
by Sean M. Moran, 2010-03-08
I bought this before I upgraded to an i-Touch..actually this pushed me to upgrade. The reason being is that on older ipod models (mine was a 5th generation video ipod) you can't use the ipod controls. You are stuck using the head unit controls only. This is not a problem in itself but navigation can get tedious with all the little buttons. i-Touch and newer Nano models are able to be controlled by either the head unit or the ipod interface. The best part is that once you enable the ipod control, you can still use the head unit controls.
The installation was about as easy as any DIN unit. This will of course depend on the car in which you are installing.
As with any aftermarket unit, there seems to be a lot of buttons very close together. It is too easy to push the wrong button and end up in a mode that changes the function of what you are doing. Unfortunately, I think this is the case with all the models on the market right now.
Back to the iPod support which is the main reason for buying this unit. I read the Crutchfield reviews and determined this model had the best iPod navigation. The navigation is very good but you really can't search for a song or artist while you are driving and be safe on the road. The iPod interface is much better for this. I generally just use the head unit interface for advancing to the next song sometimes switching between music and podcasts. The rest is easier just to do on the iPod.
I bought two of these; one for each car. I am very happy for the price paid and would recommend it to anyone with an iTouch or iPhone or newer Nano.
One more thing, my car's interior lighting is blue (VW Jetta and Passat) so I selected the blue lighting on the head unit. It's fine during the day but far too bright at night. I had to switch to the green light instead :(.
nice unit,

This is a great unit for some one that likes to constantly fine tune their music. The selection switch is very touchy so if you touch it to turn the volume down you may have inadvertently selected your balance, fade or equalizer. The unit is easier to operate at night because the display is not easily seen in the day light.
I really like this unit,it was easy to install and has many options for customising your system, but I am very disappointed in the display not being easily seen in the day light and for the frustration I give 4 stars
Sony CDXGT640UI MP3/WMA/AAC Player CD Receiver (Black),

So far so good. Very nice for a fair price. Love the digital radio sound quality and text. The faceplate is quite attractive. The only thing I don't like is that the display is not very visible in daylight, but at night it looks sharp and creates a nice atmosphere. I don't think this kit includes a protective case for the faceplate, mine didn't. There are lots of features here, I've just started to read up on them. I'm glad I bought this deck.
Nice features, works well with iPhone,
by MB, 2010-03-04
I bought this unit as a replacement after my previous stereo was stolen. I was looking for a unit with a good iPhone interface, and this one fits the bill. I've previously connected my iPhone to car stereos with a standard AUX input or FM transmitter. The USB interface is much better. Not only does it allow you to control the iPhone from the head unit, it also eliminates the annoying GSM noise (that series of buzzing sounds you hear when your phone is too close to a pair of speakers) that I heard with my old stereo. Out of the box, the unit is configured to disable control of the iPhone via the phone's touch screen when connected, in order to encourage safe driving. This can be overridden using the "Passenger Control" feature. However, I would strongly recommend buying a dashboard mount for you iPhone before using this feature, to avoid distracted driving.
The selectable blue/green illumination was also helpful, as I found the blue setting to be a bit too bright for my taste.
My one complaint is that the faceplate is difficult to put back on once removed, but this can be overcome with practice.
hard to beat for the money!,

this is a very nice unit! sound quality is really good but thats not surprising being that sony is one of the few with 120db signal to noise ratio on cd playback. any stereo can use more power but this thing fill the cab of my dodge ram 1500 with plenty of sound. and it handles the slamming bass of disturbed and breaking benjamin just fine! may not be good enough for people that listen to rap music? but luckily i don't have to worry about that problem lol! lets just say it blows away the $170 pioneer that it is replacing. it doesn't have the paremetric eq like the pioneer but with the better sound quality from the sony i don't need it. now comes the tricky part? to find an antenna adapter for my truck! that ought to be fun! i hope walmart does not let me down! cuz right now i have no radio. which i seldom listen to anyway but you never know when i might need to? if a wealthy guy bought this stereo and added a couple of amp and a couple of 12" subs this thing would be unstoppable. but for us poor folk with factor speakers and no subs it gets the job done just fine too. so buy it you won't be sorry! :oP
